Faith is the Substance of Things Not Seen

One of my favorite things within the Bible is what we look at as the faith chapter in Hebrews. “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.” Hebrews 11:1-2

Faith is a topic many people talk about. We might use other similar words like belief. Not to mention it is a word that is mentioned 287 time approximaitly in the Bible.

What in life has had you turning to your faith even if it was small? Was there a situation in life where you knew it would be ok? We start to rely on something that cannot be seen. We rely on something that we cannot see with our eyes because we need something more than ourselves.

Comparatively, we have examples of people in chapter 11 of Hebrews who had faith. These were not perfect people, but they did trust the Lord. Even when they could not see the outcome. Each situation had significantly different scenarios which resulted in a commonality. Complete trust in the Savior who provided for them time and again.

Here are three takeaways:

  • Trusting Completely: When building a relationship there needs to be trust. Actually, trusting what we cannot see is not easy.
  • Building A Relationship: Most of us learn how to be social from home and in life situations. So how can we build a relationship with a God we cannot physically see? Realistically, this is where studying the Bible, prayer, and socialization with others can help us grow.
  • Faith Unseen: Relationship with the savior helps us to better go out on unseen faith. It can be simple like it says in Matthew 17:20 it can be small like a “mustard seed.” It can also require us to do a task we don’t understand. For instance, God asking Abraham to sacrifice his son to see if he was willing to trust.

Faith and Us

Can we trust God to handle the details of our lives? How many times have we even like the ancients failed?

That is right even the ancients failed and it is to give us hope in the end. See we have a savior who is saying that he knows we can be tempted. We can have issues and problems. Yet when we trust him and let him order our steps (Psalm 37:23) we see a difference in our life.

Having divine help is more effective even though it seems ridiculous to the rest of the world. Imperatively, through examples of the stories in the Bible, we can see our own errors and the possibility of doing better in our trials. Ups and downs in life come to every person. Can we hold onto our faith?

Will we trust in the savior even during a difficult situation? Faith is a practice of how much we depend on God and it is a daily walk. Each day is a choice. As we go in faith, let us ask for Holy Spirit guidance and study the word.
